Our Roots
Southern Country Cooking in Ila, Georgia
Tucked into the rolling farmland of Madison County, the small community of Ila, Georgia sits about twenty miles northeast of Athens. It is the kind of place where the post office, the volunteer fire department, and a single stoplight still organize daily life, and where neighbors have known one another for generations. Against this quiet backdrop, Ila Restaurant has served traditional country cooking and Southern hospitality for more than thirty-one years.
Southern country cooking is a cuisine shaped by season and circumstance — what the garden gave, what the smokehouse held, and what a cook could make stretch across a long Sunday table. Biscuits rolled before sunrise, grits stirred slow on the back of the stove, vegetables simmered with a ham hock until they were tender and deeply flavored. At Ila Restaurant, that tradition still orders the morning: breakfast plates of eggs, bacon, and griddle cakes give way to a lunch of hearty plates, sandwiches, and a buffet that changes with what is good and fresh.
Owners Jackie & Barry Sinclair carry the kitchen forward with the same pride that opened its doors more than three decades ago. Every plate is meant to taste like it came from a family kitchen rather than a chain — generous, honest, and made the day you order it. Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Friday, from 5:30 in the morning until two in the afternoon, with breakfast served until eleven and lunch from ten until close.
Beyond everyday dining, the restaurant is a gathering place for the community. A private dining room seats up to one hundred guests and regularly hosts the Rotary Club, family reunions, church groups, and local celebrations. On-site and off-site catering brings the same country cooking to nearby halls, farms, and homes across Madison County and the surrounding area. For thirty-one years, the table at Ila Restaurant has been set for anyone who is hungry — and in Ila, Georgia, that is still the whole point.
